Community & Church Suppers
Grassroots and wonderful, community suppers are
remarkably popular among locals in Athabasca Country. With menus
of chicken, pancakes, spaghetti, roast beef, perogy or a host of
other homemade treats, these mostly annual events bring together
friends and neighbours for food and fellowship. Often held in
conjunction with other events, pancake breakfasts are also
popular here, and everyone is welcome. Check out the local paper
for coming meals, or stop in to the Athabasca Seniors' Centre
for their pancake breakfasts, held the last Tuesday of every
month.
Ukrainian Delicacies
Immigrants from the Ukraine have played an
important role in the development of Athabasca Country.
Ukrainian culture endures in Athabasca Country, most notably in
the form of food, like prohy (perogy), borscht (beet soup) and
holubsti (cabbage rolls). Check out the local newspaper for
listings of suppers and other events where you might find some
of these delights.
