Meanook Biological Research Station

Meanook

As a research facility for the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta, the Meanook Biological Research Station invites classes, youth groups and the general public to tour the field and laboratories where they research terrestrial and aquatic species within mixed wood boreal forest and aspen parkland. Check out the meteorological station and the experimental ponds, and see scientists in action. But don't forget to pre-arrange tours 780.675.4934.

Located conveniently at the corner of highways 663 and 63, Mr. V's Field and Forest offers a up a variety of experiences. Available for purchase are trees, shrubs, perennial garden plants, and fully stocked gift and coffee shop. Starting mid July something wonderful happens at Mr. V's. Call ahead to find out when free tours of the energy efficiency building and seven zone 2 botanical gardens take place.

 

Heritage Tours

During the summer months, Athabasca's Heritage Society offers visiting groups guided walking tours of the town's historical hotspots. Schedule your group's tour in advance by contacting the Athabasca Country Tourism Coordinator at 1.877.211.8669, or inquire about heritage talks at the Visitor Information Centre.

Contact Doug Harper 780.675.4382 or LeRoy Overacker at 780.675.3083 to schedule a tour of Amber Valley's Community Hall and Obadiah Place, a restored homestead named for its owner Obadiah Bowen and now designated as a provincial historic resource. Guided tours are available by appointment on Saturdays in July and August.
